Humor Chic - Bernard Arnault, John Galliano and Vanitas, in aleXsandro Palombo's world

Who is Vanitas? Vanitas is an aleXsandro Palombo's creature, a clown who lives joyfully and passionately, between dreams, memories and reality, he loves travelling, art and culture. His gaze is able to capture the vices and virtues of our society and unmask the misdeeds of our times through stories full of irony and provocation. His duty is to distribute dreams.

Humor Chic Milan High Society - Andrea and Elena Cingano, the power of rarity
When thinking of Milan, the first thing that comes to mind for most people is Fashion and for others Design, but Milan does not belong to Fashion with its circus of rags, and even less to Design and its sea of plastic. No, on the contrary, the greatness of Milan is concealed and not easily shown. The true face of the city is represented by other figures, who contribute, always in absolute silence, to culturally enrich and elevate the city, the leaders of a private, sober and reserved society, but above all unwilling to talk about themselves. Just like the two great protagonists of today whom Humor Chic wished to immortalize in its own way but without recounting their story. We are talking about the wonderful Andrea and Elena Cingano, absolute protagonists of a Milan that disdains the fashionable world, absolute protagonists of a Milan that does not bow to mediocrity, absolute protagonists of a Milan educated to generosity, absolute protagonists of a Milan that has made absolute confidentiality its strength, that of rarity.Friday, April 15, 2011

Humor Chic Icon Alert - Cathy Horyn, a fabulous "Real Girl"
Cathy Horyn, before and after!
Years ago, whenever someone in the fashion world mentioned the name of Cathy Horyn, the first thing you heard was "Oh yeah, shit, she’s the woman who did a hatchet job on Giorgio Armani in The New York Times. The journalist, the fashion critic, a really tough girl, she’s just so mean.” A bit too much so for the tastes of Armani. In fact her scathing criticism meant the following season old Giorgio (Fashion Dictator to his friends) refused to let her into his show. Those were fabulous times, fashion was still laughing and dreaming. And today? Not even a shadow of criticism now. It seems to be dead as chewing gum under everyone’s tongue, because now we only use the tip of the tongue, and you know what for... Hmmm, as I was saying, just to praise any great stylist rather than lose the much-desired and all-important advertising! And so Hurricane Cathy turned into a perfect servant. How boring, how sad! A wretched way to end up, polishing shoes. But no, hey, wait One moment, what we are saying? Not completely spineless. We have to admit it. At the latest shows in New York Fashion Week she seems to have even done it again. She’s found the time to literally destroy someone (Hurricane Cathy against Ruffian read here), Yes, you heard right. The only drawback is there was no fun to be had because it wasn’t a big name but some of the young designers, who have only been showing for a few seasons. It appears that Hurricane Cathy is very much at home in those parts and she found the time to vent all her exacerbated repression just because of those big bastards. Horrible of you to hurt our poor Cathy, darling! Oh well, anyway we love you and we’re shouting it out loud, because after all she remains an important icon of reference for all those lesbian fashion victims who love a look somewhere between the trucker and the pot head, and she’s fabulous at that! Really unbeatable! But hey no, no, even this no longer seems so true, Let’s say Cathy is also working on her appearance and is trying with all her strength to take a step forward. But the point is, how far? And above all to go where? Dear Cathy, we’re really anxious! Let us know, but remember we love you and dream about you like this ... Hmm, we'd love it. Do you think you can do it? Cathy, just imagine what a coup, to become a sexbomb, the new icon of all the male truckers. Go for it Cathy! We love you, you know. Keep us dreaming Cherie!

Humor Chic News - The latest fad in China? Keychains Containing Live Turtles and Fish
According the chinese media, the sale of small live-animal key chains is on the rise in China. Turtles and fish are being sealed up in airtight plastic containers and sold as trinkets to shoppers with growing popularity. Venders claim the water inside the pouch is nutrient-rich, and that the animals can live for a month or longer. Animal protection groups are advocating an immediate ban, calling the item an example of "pure animal abuse." However, there is no existing animal protection law that would prevent their sales, explain animal rights groups. According to Mary Peng, cofounder of the International Center for Veterinary Services, fish and turtles wouldn't survive very long in a sealed plastic bag. "They would run out of oxygen," Peng said.
"To put a living thing inside a sealed and confined space for profit is immoral and pure animal abuse," said Qin Xiaona, director of the NGO Capital Animal Welfare Association.
However, "China only has a Wild Animal Protection Law," Qin explained. "If the animals are not wild animals they fall outside the law's scope." "If an animal protection law is too much to hope for, we urgently need an antianimal abuse law," Qin said, appealing to citizens not to buy such key rings. "If nobody buys it, the market will die," she added. The key chains are becoming increasingly popular around elementary schools, where they are marketed to students from the stationary shops surrounding campus.

Humor Chic Exclusive - The Toninho Cerezo’s letter to his daughter, Lea T, the Brazilian transgender model.
In the video, at the end of the interview Toninho Cerezo reads the letter he wrote his daughter, Lea T. Viewing is highly recommended for all, and make sure you have a big stock ... of tissues!
The transsexual model Lea T (on her passport she’s still Leandro Cerezo) became famous for posing nude for French Vogue, after taking part in an advertising campaign for a French fashion house. Just the other day she gave her first interview in Italy on the national La7 TV channel. After interviews in America and Brazil, she then decided that since she grew up in Italy she wanted to utter some home truths here, and she really made her point! Lea T has spoken of herself, of her childhood, her family and the difficult and tortuous process of become transsexual. Lea remembers the difficult and terrible times she had to deal with, talking about the harsh discrimination she faced in Italy, a country which she reckons is one of the most bigoted and closed there is, due to the oppressive pressure enforced by the church. Lea T was born in 1981 in Brazil, but in 1982 she moved to Italy and she practically grew up here, being the daughter of a famous former soccer player, the Brazilian Toninho Cerezo, who played for many years in the Italian Serie A. The family still live in a town near Milan. The following is an excerpt from the exclusive interview and then the letter from her Father which Humor Chic has translated for you:
"It was my women friends who told me, ‘You're just like us, the way you think, it’s like us. We feel it’s right for you to go and see a doctor,’ and I made up my mind to do it,” said Lea T, talking about what led her to decide to start her transgender journey. “If a woman has breasts, you don’t call her masculine but feminine,” continues Lea. “Here in Italy the people, men, are very aggressive and vulgar with us transgenders. They believe we’re just prostitutes … I’ve gone through a lot because of that and I never take the subway in Milan because I was verbally abused once, in the daytime, by a guy who insulted me in every way, saying: ‘You shit viado, you gotta die. Go back to your country. You’ve come here only to spread disease, you're all whores.’ And the most incredible thing was it was the subway at peak hour, 7 pm, full of young people. I cried and there wasn’t one person who tried to comfort me and tell me, you'll be fine, forget about it, don’t take it to heart. No, I didn’t have get support from anyone, and I realized that when they saw that he was insulting me, calling me a viados, a trans, and a lot more, the people realized I was a trans, a viados and no one came over to help me… I get a heap of abuse if they realize I’m a trans, because they say I’m perverted and degenerate. … The men think, ‘Oh she’s a trans because she wants to have a lot of men and so she’ll come across with me, and I’ll give it to her and she'll be happy.’ … This is what Italian men think, because there’s a very strong rate of prostitution here, with the highest number of transsexuals in Italy. A lot of Brazilians come here and work as transgender prostitutes because the demand is strong. This is because it’s such a religious country. It’s more narrow-minded than other countries and so people are more bigoted. So a man who is curious to go with another man prefers to go with a trans, so he’ll be able to say he’s not gay.”
When asked how his mother reacted when she saw Lea T dressed up as a woman for the first time she says: "For my Mom it was worse than for my father. My Mom created me. For a mother it’s different. Also she comes from a very Catholic family. Today it's all right. In fact we go shopping together, and she always tells me to speak softly, so it doesn’t come out sounding like a man's voice.”
Then the interview sprang a surprise with the model’s father reading out a letter he had written to Lea. Toninho Cerezo’s voice, trembling from his strong feeling, was touching and powerful and should be a lesson to all parents who ask their children to betray their own nature. Here we have the exclusive of the letter from Toninho Cerezo written to his daughter, Lea T:
"We can’t be good at everything, and you, Lea T. Cerezo, you managed to achieve much more than just kicking a soccer ball about. You had the courage and elegance to break down the barriers and show the world that we have to accept differences and be tolerant of them. We have to understand and not judge things that are beyond us. The journey may be long but certainly it would not be the same without you. Boy or girl, Leandro or Lea, doesn’t matter anymore. I will always be your father and you, proudly, a part of me.” Toninho Cerezo
Lea T tearfully concluded by saying:
"I’m weeping for the pride I feel for my father. Not all fathers are like that. I feel so lucky. I know of many girls who are on the streets because of their parents, who threw them out of the house. To know I have a family like that, all people who support me. I feel so proud because this is the beautiful message he’s sharing with other parents. I think he’s an example to follow.”
Nowadays, when racism, bigotry and violence have become the new trend, Toninho Cerezo’s message is a true breakthrough and I say a great example to follow. So what do you think, chicest ones? Did you have enough wipes?!
